Jake Mathewson

Jake Mathewson MSc is an epidemiologist with a background in critical care nursing and a strong foundation in infectious disease control in low-resource and conflict-affected settings.  

Jake previously worked as a malaria control trial manager in rural Tanzania through Kilamanjaro Christian Medical Centre (KCMC) after finishing his MSc at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in the Control of Infectious Diseases.

Working with the Epidemiology department since March 2020, Jake has been engaged in projects focused on active case finding for tuberculosis in Pakistan, COVID-19 surveillance in Afghanistan, and monitoring and evaluation for Neglected Tropical Diseases across numerous African and South Asian countries through the ASCEND project.

Jake’s aspirations at KIT are to continue to enhance his techniques in spatial analysis and epidemiology to improve disease control in low-resource and conflict affected settings, while also contributing improvements in equity, research fairness, and sustainability in the field of global health.
