Nicola Francesconi

Nicola Francesconi holds a PhD in Development Economics from Wageningen University and has lived and worked in Africa for 16 years.

He has worked for the CGIAR for 10 years (2003-2013) – mostly for IFPRI, but also for CIAT and ILRI – and from 2013 till 2019 he led the edc.coop programme for two donor-agencies: USAID-OCDC and CTA-EU-ACP.

His expertise encompasses data collection and field surveys, econometric analysis and impact evaluation, capacity building and curricula design, project development and management, and policy advocacy.

His experience concerns behavioral and institutional change for poverty alleviation, food security and environmental sustainability, with a specific focus on: rural leadership and cooperation, agribusiness management and innovation, farmland tenure and governance.
