Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for Global Health

The explosive availability of open source health data offers new opportunities to analyze and monitor trends in disease. It also opens new pathways to assess how effectively health systems can address these trends. Epidemiologists, health professionals and policymakers increasingly utilize new analytical techniques and software to process and analyze the growing volumes of high resolution health data.

This course trains health professionals with the essential skills to map and analyze routinely collected health data. In this training you will learn what data and methods are used to detect areas of high disease risk and to compare these with geographic patterns of health service delivery.

Global perspectives on Digital Health (GPDH)

This two-weeks course offers an introduction and overview of digital health, including a strong emphasis on how in reality, digital health functions in various settings. Participants will discuss how digital health interventions can help push the triple aim of Universal Health Coverage and Sustainable Goal Development for more people at a lower cost in different settings in high-, low- and middle-income countries. The program discusses what kind of analysis is needed for developing digital health interventions, which stakeholders should be involved and cross-cutting issues to be considered when implementing DHI in low resources settings.

Strengthening Disrupted Health Systems (E-Learning)

This e-learning course strengthens your ability to address health system challenges in complex emergencies and fragile states. To prepare you for improving these challenging situations we will analyse health system resilience, policies, politics, roles and strategies of key actors, health equity, the humanitarian development nexus and more. This will enable you to develop context specific strategies for strengthening different elements of disrupted health systems.

This course is tropEd accredited. It can be followed as a stand-alone course or as part of the Master in International Health programme.

Good epidemiological practice (GEP): implementation and analysis of global health studies

Over the past decade, two movements have profoundly changed the environment in which global health epidemiologists work: research integrity and research fairness. On one hand, questionable research practices may lead to spurious findings if studies are ill-designed, poorly implemented, inappropriately analysed or selectively reported. On the other hand, local communities, institutions and researchers are too often side-lined from the formulation of research questions, the design and implementation of studies and the dissemination of findings.

Qualitative Methods in Health Systems Research (QHSR)

This course focuses on qualitative health systems research. Participants gain experience in each step of the qualitative research process and learn ways to enhance the utilisation of research results.

This course is tropEd accredited and can be followed as a stand-alone course or as part of the Master in International Health or the Master of Public Health programmes.

Feminist Edge

Feminist Edge offers professional development for gender trainers that re-captures and re-imagines gender training, as a feminist project, establishing a new approach to training for gender equality. We reposition training for gender equality as a strategy to challenge and engender mainstream development and support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).  

The programme addresses the need to (re)claim autonomous spaces for feminist knowledge production and challenges development policy makers and practitioners to re-think how to address social and gender inequity to ensure that “no one is left behind.” Feminist Edge focusses both on the practice of gender training and on its conceptual underpinnings.

Human Resources for Health (HRH)

This course provides knowledge and skills that health care managers, policy makers and planners need for human resource planning and management. It discusses policies, strategies and practices at a national and workplace level to address health workforce issues.

This course is tropEd accredited and can be followed as a stand-alone course or as part of the Master in International Health or Master of Public Health programmes.

Control Strategies for Communicable and Non-communicable Diseases (CCND)

Disease control refers to a broad package of strategies for controlling diseases, from primary prevention, health promotion, and health legislation to screening for early detection, treatment and rehabilitation. This course is designed to help disease control officers retain the strength of their programmes while moving towards more integrated and sector-wide approaches.

This course is TropEd accredited and can be followed as a stand-alone course or as advanced module of the Master in International Health or the Master of Public Health programmes.

Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights: organising effective responses (SRHResp)

In this course, participants examine how to improve access to equitable, quality sexual and Reproductive Health/ HIV and AIDS services with a focus on rights, while improving integration of services as well as voice and participation.

This course is TropEd accredited and can be followed as a stand-alone course or as part of the Master in International Health or the Master of Public Health programmes. It is aimed at senior health managers and professionals working in sexual and public health.

Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights including HIV and AIDS (SRHR HIVAIDS)

An in-depth look at important issues and current debates in sexual reproductive health policy, including HIV and AIDS, towards more inclusive and rights-based approaches to sexual and reproductive health.

This course is tropEd accredited and is intended for public health professionals looking to elevate their capabilities in sexual and reproductive health. It can be followed as a stand-alone course or as part of the Master in International Health or Master of Public Health programmes.

Health Policy and Financing (HP&F)

An in-depth look at important issues and current debates in health policy, health economics and health financing, taking into account the diverse profit and not for profit systems.

This course is tropEd accredited  and is intended for public health professionals looking to elevate their capabilities in healthcare financing. It can be followed as a stand-alone course or as part of the Master in International Health or Master in Public Health programmes.

Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights: Policy, Governance and Financing (SRHR POL)

In this course you become acquainted with the policy instruments, governance mechanisms and financial structures related to HIV and AIDS. You analyse political and institutional structures and their implications for planning and managing responses. You also learn to identify HIV and AIDS-related international agreements, conventions and financial mechanisms, and analyse how these influence national planning and implementation and vice versa. The course focuses on the situation in low and Middle Income Countries.
