Tasneem Kakal


Tasneem Kakal is a feminist youth advocate and researcher in development, currently working at Royal Tropical Institute (KIT), Amsterdam in sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR).

She has a grasp of quantitative and qualitative data analysis and works at the intersection of gender and health. She has experience conducting mixed methods studies on SRHR in various settings and she focuses on youth and sexuality. At KIT, she is working on multi-country projects such as Yes I Do and Get up Speak Out (GUSO) conducting research on child marriage and SRHR across countries in Asia and Africa. She has also been awarded for a mixed methods study that she conducted on teenage childbearing in South Africa in 2014.

Tasneem also complements her research experience with programming. She co-founded two youth-led grassroots organisations working in rural areas and urban slums in Maharashtra, India. She has fundraised and created strategic partnerships with organisations and funders for various projects in Mumbai. This has enabled her to work at different levels with communities, governments and international organisations. Prior to KIT, she worked with Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL), an international impact agency that conducts randomised control trials and Oxfam Novib, an international NGO. Tasneem is a self-starter with a strong work ethic to deliver results. She thrives in partnerships, can coordinate interests and mobilise stakeholders to work towards a common vision. She is an alumnus of the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS), The Hague, is a World Economic Forum Global Shaper and a Young Leader at Women Deliver.
