Eijkman Medal Fund Board Members
The Eijkman Medal Fund was founded on the 1 st of October, 1923 and is located at KIT Royal Tropical Institute. The Medal is awarded to researchers who have distinguished themselves in the field of Tropical Medicine, in the broadest sense of the word. This award is in cooperation with the Dutch Society for Tropical Medicine and International Healthcare (NVTG). Since the first award ceremony in 1927, 53 people have received the medal. For more information: https://www.kit.nl/nl/over-ons/stichting-eijkman/
The Fund currently has a temporary board consisting of Lindy van Vliet, Mark Schneiders and Joyce Browne. The purpose of this temporary board is to assemble a new board and to prepare the amendment of the Fund’s statutes. The Fund currently has three medals in stock which will cover 2021-22. It is expected that the new board will develop (modest) fundraising activities for the continuation of the award ceremony thereafter. This can be done in cooperation with KIT and NVTG. The Fund is administratively supported by a secretariat at KIT. The Eijkman Medal Fund is looking for 3-5 new board members, who will work on the following tasks over the short and longer term:
Finalising the statutes on the basis of the continuation of the temporary board, in order to bring it in line with a broader ‘Global Health’ view, the social context in which Global Health operates in the Netherlands and abroad, and to enable the nomination of international candidates. Development of a sustainability plan, including raising funds for future awards and applications for ANBI status. This is expected to take place in close cooperation with KIT and the NVTG. In addition, it will be necessary to investigate how to collaborate with the Eijkman institute in Indonesia. Awarding at least one medal and setting up and executing the selection procedure for this award.
The continuation of the Eijkman Medal Award with a future-proof Fund.
Board Member Profiles:
A chairman, treasurer, secretary and at least two board members with an affinity for the objectives of the Fund and its short and long-term ambitions are sought. These board members will be appointed by the KIT Board of Directors on the recommendation of the current board of the Eijkman Medal Fund. At least one member from KIT and one member from the NVTG will be delegated. The appointment is for at least 4 years and can be extended once.
