We are currently seeking candidates for the position of Gender Advisor (or Senior Gender Advisor) to strengthen our team. This Advisor will work with colleagues in the Gender team and across KIT’s Knowledge Unit, contributing to and leading a variety of projects, offering advisory and applied knowledge services on the thematic area of gender, agriculture and environment.

The Gender Advisor will contribute to expanding and deepening our gender work around one or more of the following thematic areas within the gender, agriculture and environment portfolio: (1) gender-transformative approaches, (2) climate change adaptation and mitigation from a gender perspective, (3) gender dimensions of energy transition, mining or other extractive industries, or (4) monitoring, evaluation and learning on empowerment and gender transformative outcomes. We expect the advisor to contribute to the strategy of the KIT gender team and knowledge unit, lead and contribute to gender team acquisition efforts, contribute to gender training development and delivery, and work with junior, mid-career and senior colleagues.

Main responsibilities

Provide advice in support of development organisations and governments integrating and promoting gender equality in agriculture, environment projects, policy and practice.

Develop and implement gender capacity building programs (including training, coaching, action learning and other forms of knowledge sharing) at international, regional and national levels.

Support and facilitate institutional change, including design and supervision of gender audits and institutional assessments; development of gender strategies and policies, and support their implementation.

Design and implement Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) related to institutional change, gender-transformative change and/or gender integration strategies.

Design, implement and disseminate applied qualitative and/or quantitative research

Liaise with donors and partners to mobilize resources and acquire projects to realise the knowledge ambitions of the gender team.

Contribute to gender team learning and knowledge development.

Contribute to strategic positioning of KIT’s gender work, nationally and internationally.

Support quantitative and qualitative data analysis

Collaborate with gender team colleagues in further expanding work in the area of gender, agriculture and environment.

Contribute to knowledge management through online platforms, and publications.

Job requirements

Academic qualification (minimum of Master degree) in social sciences, with a strong and focused specialisation in gender studies.

Minimum 8 years of work experience in gender and international development in applied research positions, capacity strengthening programmes and/or advisory work.

Proven expertise on the gender dimensions of agricultural and environmental development.

Demonstrated ability to work on gender integration with specialists in agriculture, environment and impact evaluation/assessments.

Strong analytical skills and the ability to connect gender knowledge generated in agricultural and environmental projects more broadly.

Experience on climate change mitigation and adaption and/or on energy transition, mining and/or green finance, all from a gender perspective, is an advantage.

Demonstrated experience with gender capacity strengthening and training.

Demonstrated experience in Gender Transformative Approaches and intersectionality.

Demonstrated experience with social science research methods, in particular mixed methods and/or quantitative data analysis. Experience with diverse research methodologies (such as story-telling or using art) is an advantage.

Ability to work independently in performing tasks in a project team, and writing analytical reports and knowledge products.

Experience in acquiring and leading large projects/programmes is an advantage.

Excellent listening and problem solving skills and the capacity to work within a diverse multicultural team and maintain good working relations with global partners.

Experience writing research reports and producing knowledge products.

Long-term working experience in LMIC countries (Africa, Asia or MENA, in particular), is an advantage.

A PhD is an advantage.

Ability to work in Arabic, French and/or an Asian language is an advantage.

Fluency in English is required.

Regular short–term travel is required for this position.

Together with partners and clients KIT Gender facilitates and documents critical reflection and gender knowledge development, supports the development of policies and strategies and the monitoring and evaluation of programmes that focus on gender equality and rights outcomes.
